Very disappointed in my shopping experience based on their new policy’s penalty. An understandable customer error could have been explained, mitigated without embarrassment and bad feelings all around. Shame on you!

WinCo is a well-liked establishment that has been a part of my life for as long as I can recall. As long as I reside in this region, I will continue to patronize this establishment.

Winco in Yuba City WAS one of my favorite stores. In the past the employees have been helpful and I appreciate the fresh produce and value products. But on 1/3/25 I was in the store with my elderly mother who gets a little tired pushing the cart. On this day, since we only had a few items we shared a cart. Arrived at self checkout with several open registers (awesome), we went to two separate registers adjacent to each other and my mom began to check her 6 items and I began to check my 11 items. We thought we were being so efficient even remembered to bring our own grocery bags. After we started checking our items an employee shut down our registers. The Winco employee approached us and demanded we have separate carts (supposedly a new rule), she took me to the start of the line and showed me a handwritten white board sign on the floor saying “one transaction per cart”. I didn’t see the sign and this is a new rule. I got a red basket and moved my items to the separate cart thinking this would rectify the situation. BUT NO! The employee demanded we both remove our items from the cash register and take them out of the check out line in our now separate carts and get back in the line, even though there was no one waiting in line. I asked her to call a supervisor and the supervisor came repeated the same ridiculous demand. Now, I’m frustrated that they refused to turn back on our registers over a “check-out power struggle”. I just wanted to pay for my few items and go home. 😡 Instead both my mom and I chose to leave all 16 items and go to Grocery Outlet instead. I spoke with Asst. Mgr Nick on the phone but still feel there was a better way to handle this scenario. Winco probably doesn’t care about my few dollars, but I shop there often so likely they will lose some chump change and they now have a customer who generally sings their praises just plain mad at the attitude! Suggestion; when you roll out a new policy (before you even have signage printed), have some flexibility, maybe say “thanks for shopping here but we have a new policy and next time you come through self checkout please make sure you have separate carts”. You would still have a customer if it had been handled right.

The ONLY 24-hour grocery store left anymore. I love shopping here at the wee hours because it's not busy and the employees are always nice and willing to go out of their way to help. I omitted 1 star because there are a few staples of mine they don't carry which means I, unfortunately, have to spend time and money to go elsewhere for these items.

Visited the Yuba City Winco today and almost weekly, it is our go to grocery store. Prices are the best in town. Has been very busy lately no matter what time we have gone. Checkers are not very friendly and appear to be annoyed to be assisting you.

I usually go to WinCo to do all of my grocery shopping but around the holidays it is packed with people you usually can't even find a parking spot. That's because their prices are very good.
