Disappointing Grooming Experience for My Australian Shepherd

I recently took my standard Australian Shepherd to Splash Bath for a grooming appointment, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience.

Upon arrival, my husband dropped two dogs off (had called and confirmed they had room for a second dog) our Australian shepherd (which they have groomed many times) and a Shih Tzu.

We dropped the dogs off at 1:30pm for our scheduled time. We ran some errands and came back at 4:30pm to pick up the dogs. The staff told us it would be about another hour. We came back around 6pm to pick up our dogs to which we were told they need even more time. We were not called to pick up our family members until 7:30pm (the store closes at 6pm)…our dogs were at the groomers for 6 hours at this point

During the grooming, I noticed that my dog was not handled with the care I expected. I could hear my Australian Shepherd whimpering and whining when hearing my voice, I asked if our dogs had been given the opportunity to use the bathroom, or were given any water during the 6 hour period they were at the groomers to which we were told that they had not had either opportunity throughout the entire day. This made me very uncomfortable and concerned about our dog’s well-being.

When I finally got the opportunity to pick up my dogs, I was taken aback by the results. Not only was his coat not properly groomed, but I also noticed massive amounts of uneven trimming and that my Australian shepherd had been basically shaved. I was so shocked by the hair cut I burst into tears. The groomer then began to get irate with me as she yelled at me “do you like it or not!” I tried to get a hold of myself shocked by the cut and the attitude of the women who had been handling my pet, she then immediately began to say that it was our fault for not being clear on the instructions (even though he had been groomed there before and even had the instructions written down on a index card and read it to me). I then AS THE CUSTOMER had to de-escalate the situation with tears in my eyes begging for my dog’s back.

She then charged us ALMOST $200 for a cut that I left sobbing with.

Overall, I was very disappointed with the service at Splash Bath. I expected a loving and professional environment for my dog, but instead, I got a shocking unprofessional and scary experience. I won’t be returning and would not recommend this place to other pet owners.

I’ve attached before and after results so you could see why I was so shocked. You can also see the choppiness around his face and how uneven the entire cut is.

I would highly recommend taking your dog(s) and or cat(s) to Splash Bath. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and extremely courteous. My rescue dogs ALWAYS come back looking and smelling terrific.To the people reading the reviews and seeing the negative comments, ignore them. These people come in with an agenda to complain so they can hopefully get the staff to adjust the price. These girls work very hard and do excellent work. They tolerate a lot of disrespect from some of the clients. How about everyone start showing these girls some respect and appreciation. I know I do and always will. Remember there is a way to present something if you aren’t happy. Yelling and cursing isn’t going to help. As for complaining about the turn around time, some dogs are more challenging to groom then others, therefore it will take more time. Remember YOUR dog could be one of those challenging grooms. Be courteous and respectful!!

Initially, I left a good review. However, I believe my latest experience with Splash Bath warrants a warning for any potential new clients.
If I could rate this place with a ZERO, I would. My dogs last appointment was booked for 11:00am, but they weren’t done with her until after 4:00pm. She was shaking like a leaf and when I looked at her stomach, I knew why. They scraped, scratched and cut her! As if their harmful treatment of my dog wasn’t enough, they completely disregarded the type of haircut we asked for.
I have tried to contact the owner, Sandi Sprier but she chose to ignore me. I guess Splash Bath has so many clients that they can afford to lose us. I’ll never go back and put my sweet pup through that again! Clearly they don’t care if they wreck your dog! Spare your pup and go somewhere else!

The lobby is impeccably clean, creating a welcoming first impression. The staff are nothing short of amazing, making you feel like a long-time client from the moment you walk in. I brought in my very overdue husky for an appointment, and the results were beyond my expectations. When I picked him up, he looked absolutely incredible—his white patches were radiant, and his coat was dry, fluffy, and groomed to perfection. What truly sets this place apart is their kindness and understanding; they never make you feel judged, even if you call to check in. Highly recommend!

The ladies did an incredible job on my dad's 17-year-old Snorkie. I really appreciated the fact that he wasn't in a kennel all day!Unlike the lady he's been going to. Unfortunately, the little guy crossed the rainbow bridge. Otherwise, I would be bringing him back to get pampered! 🌈🌁

I take my shaded silver persian cat Thor here. He always comes home smelling good, have done a couple lion cuts which come out fantastic and overall very nice to me at least (despite all the bad reviews) I will continue bringing my cat to this groomer. Thanks!

I’ve come here a few times now because the location is convenient, but I think they are just in too much of a rush. We got one of our dog’s nails trimmed and they were still very long when we got home, but thought it was a one-off situation. Went in for a full grooming service and left with a bandana that was so tight around our dog’s neck that I had to cut it off so he could breathe. Went in one more time and they cut our dog’s nail past the quick, and she’s bleeding everywhere. Clearly this is just the level of service they provide and although I wish we could keep going back, there are just way too many persisting issues.
