Our stay at the Soward Ranch was delightful. We were in the Lake Cabin which is very comfortable, clean and functional. The beds are good, the kitchen appliances modern and both a wood stove and propane heat are available for cold mornings. We brought our Black Lab since the ranch allows dogs (additional fee). We were welcomed when we checked in and the proprietors were very friendly. The setting of a ranch is like a picture postcard Western scene. The ranch complex itself feels like a working ranch, with a variety of humble, historic buildings and a variety of equipment for working the land. Nothing faux about this place. There was even a cattle drive on the ranch when we were there!

Wonderful place to recharge!
2020 has been quite the stressful year so far so we wanted a place to unplug, de-stress and just relax to be away from it all. Soward Ranch is a little slice of heaven near the Rio Grande river. We stayed in a small cabin (Spruce) which was perfect for the two of us. Cozy and clean. Bed comfortable and kitchen had everything you needed to prepare own meals. The surrounding area was breathtaking. Enjoy just sitting on the front porch rockers and drink in the views. Lots of hiking, mountain biking and wonderful fishing all nearby. Sara the owner was very accommodating and helpful too.

We booked three nights for 5 people at the Soward Ranch in Creede Colorado. What a hidden Gem!! We reserved the Mesa Cabin! It was perfect for our family get together. Absolutely gorgeous - with views of Bristol head Mountain and 3 of the 5 on site lakes. The cabin was spotless and the kitchen was extremely well stocked. Bedding was a bit dated but the beds and pillows were very comfortable. The cabin bedroom dΓ©cor was very retro and the living room was very comfortable with a wonderfully big sectional. There was also a big kitchen table that was perfect seating for our meals and games We had a great experience and are looking forward to heading back next year!

Arrived on a Sunday afternoon. Halfway through the night lost water due to freezing. Informed them Monday morning. Arrived back at cabin at 3:00 in the afternoon. Somebody had been working on it all day long. At sunset still no water and no communication from owners. Weather was cold and windy with snow for the night.||This means we were expected to go out side to relieve ourselves. My wife has an ostomy bag that she has to empty every couple of hours. We decide this was unacceptable, packed up and left at 9:30. We got an email saying sorry for what happened and that they came over Tuesday afternoon to move us to a new cabin. This should have been done Monday evening. We had given them a $190.00 deposit. I wrote a letter a week later asking for a refund. Also the fact that a cleaning fee was not reveled until we had paid our deposit. A month later we have received no response from them. Very disappointed in this type of customer service. They basically ripped us off. They took our money and did not provide services rendered. Do not do business with these people. We were expected to go outside in the blowing cold and snow since no water for the toilet. A Horrible way to treat paying guests.

My family has been coming up for three generations now and this really feels like home away from home. Absolutely beautiful views and the Lambs have always been very welcoming. I've traveled throughout the world and this place still remains my absolute favorite.

We had an amazing stay at the ranch and I would whole-heartedly and unreservedly recommend everyone to book a cabin! We booked the Friendship Cabin and it was perfect for my 17 year old daughter and our husky. Sarah met us when we arrived and welcomed us with lots of useful information about the ranch and the area. She's was such a great hostess! The only thing we requested was a knife sharpener and we received it in a very timely manner. The cabin was absolutely spotless and very well-equipped for all of our meals. The bathroom in the Friendship cabin is a bit small but there were lots of extra towels and washcloths, which was great! The big window in the living room gave us amazing views of the valley and the stone fireplace was perfect for chilly nights (we stayed there mid-Sept). We found a bunch of games tucked away in a cupboard and played cards at night with the fireplace crackling away. The huge closets in both bedrooms for storing our luggage out of the way were a great bonus. The beds were very comfortable with great views from every window. If you have never seen the stars on a moonless night in Creede, you are missing something special! The stars were so bright that they casts shadows!! While the wi-fi in our cabin was very good we first arrived, it did get weaker as more people checked into their cabins, but we were warned ahead of time about this and being a good distance from the ranch office, I was surprised to have wi-fi signal at all! Our Verizon phones worked great though! My daughter turned on the hot-spot on her phone and logged on to her high school classes back home and sat on the porch overlooking the lakes and mountains while attending her lectures with her dog sunbathing at her feet. How perfect!! On our last night I went down to the laundry room to wash clothes and found a (newer!) washer and dryer, which was super appreciated so we didn't have to take any dirty clothes home!! We spent a week at the cabin and can't wait to go back, hopefully bringing more family with us next year!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The ranch is quiet and peaceful and rustic. We stay in a cabin that was built in 1939 and that is one of the things we love about it; it's an old log cabin and very comfortable. If you want to sit on the porch all day and look at the view, you can do so undisturbed. Or you can walk up the road right into the national forest and you might think you were the only person within a hundred miles. It's not, thank goodness, a five-star hotel and it is in the mountains of Colorado, so yes, you might see a spider or two: Bring an old glass to catch them so you can put them outside. One reviewer even complained about mismatched sheets (or bedspreads)! If that sort of thing bothers you, go elsewhere. This place is unique in that they don't cater to tourists who require activities other than hiking and fishing. It's a place where you can be on your own without worries or complaints, unless you require them in order to be happy, in which case you can always find something to bother you. Some people might complain about the chipmunk-looking ground squirrels that come up onto the porch; others will feed them and take photos. I come to this oasis every summer (since 1996) and spend a week, just enough time to spiritually recuperate so that I can face another year in the rat race.

Family vacation here not good !! Brothers cabin smelled of pot and located right in between 2 rental cabins, (kids with us and kept asking what the smell was) brother and nightly visitors in and out all hours, hot water heater went out in cathedral cabin, handyman(dad) managed to get a fuse in upside down on our last day(we turned fuse around so we could shower) cussed at by another guest, electricity has major problems, unable to cook Mini bag of popcorn even in 10 minutes, lights would start dimming in the evening almost to the point of going off, bathroom sink didn't drain in my cabin(note the plunger under the sink) paid extra for dog and then received a ugly email saying if I came back I couldn't bring my dog because of the shedding !! I could go on and on. The laundry lady(mother) is very rude also. I do not recommend this place !!
