I wholeheartedly recommend The Professional Dog Mom!

Our four month old puppy was terrified of EVERYTHING and Tonda helped us build skills to really work with and meet our dog at her level. It has been a long process, but what we have learned from Tonda has been invaluable to her healthy development toward just being a happy pup. She still has fears, but she has improved exponentially in the last year that we've been with Tonda. And we have improved as empathic pet parents.

Our pup is always so excited when she gets to slgo spend time with Tonda. If you are looking for help with your doggo - Tonda is the best there is!

Please read all reviews on here and Yelp carefully. I wish I had. It seems that her care depends on the day or the dog - very inconsistent and quite concerning.

My partner and I booked a 1 day doggy daycare with Tonda, the owner, for our 8mo Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. I called ahead to discuss what to expect since we hadn’t boarded him before, and she suggested we do a short dropoff the day before so we booked a 2 hr boarding. We’ve had several different sitters and walkers stay with our puppy and he’s graduated from BravoPup Oakland’s puppy training courses tier 1-3. He is well socialized and behaved but daycare was new.

When we arrived at the facility, it was a very alarming and chaotic feeling: 3+ dogs roaming free and 2 caged in the lobby with one aggressively barking so loud I couldn’t hear her talking and had to yell to get checked in. (She later told us the two in front are rescues that have issues, which was confusing why she kept them in the front where dogs and people come in.) There were lots of small things that felt weird about her greeting us and our puppy. To list a few: a) she told me on the phone he’d have his own room where we could have his bed and toys but instead there was a 4’x4’ cage that she set up in the lobby around all the dogs b) she refused treats to hold when trying to first greet him saying that “food gets weird” and then a few mins later asked for a treat so he’d come to her and c) she asked we tighten his collar so it wouldn’t come off if she pulled really hard (which we did), but we kept informing her that he’s only used to going on walks with a leash to his harness. We also let her know that he was very tired from a hike and didn't need a walk - just to be fed dinner we brought. We decided to try leaving him for the short boarding.

Less than an hour later, I had multiple missed calls and voicemail to come back urgently. She had taken him on a walk and somehow he got out of his collar and ran away from her in the dark, shared parking lot outside the facility. She couldn’t get him to come back to her. This was terrifying. We rushed back and luckily our puppy ran to us as soon as we arrived. Instead of her taking accountability and apologizing for this horrible experience, she proceeded to accuse our puppy for poor behavior. We also asked why she didn’t use the slip collar leash like told us she would and asked why she decided to take him on a walk when we said he didn’t need it - her responses were defensive and hysterical. She kept going on and on - accusing tourists who bring their dogs to Tahoe and started talking about bears attacking dogs daily. We paid and canceled our booking for the next day. We were so worried for the safety of our puppy and then on top of that, she kept blaming us for what happened while he was in HER care (for less than 1 hr).

I don’t ever want to bring down a small business owner, but I feel very strongly about cautioning other dog owners of this place. She is not fit to board dogs - at many levels from inconsistent and accusatory communication, a chaotic environment at the facility, and at the end of the day signing up for WAY more than she could handle, which traumatized and put the safety of our puppy at risk.

Dog training with Professional Dog Mom is just a fabulous experience all around. My pup and I both enjoy going to our sessions...the place is welcoming and friendly, and Tonda is a true professional who is clearly passionate about what she is doing, and cares about your dog's journey. Every dog is different I'm sure, but as for my boy Sam, the results have been amazing! He responds well to all her methods so far; and perhaps more importantly I have learned so much about what makes my dog tick and what I can do to train him myself. I highly recommend some one-on-one sessions with Tonda, they are worth every penny!

Tonda held private trainings at her facility for our 4 month Bernese Mountain Puppy and has been helping with some behavior modification with our 2 year Labrador covid puppy. Overall, it has been a great experience with so much valuable information on puppy training and dog behavior. She is very knowledgeable about dogs and really listens to the owners concerns. Would 100% recommend!

Tonda is AMAZING! She has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to positive reinforcement and training. She provides so much information and insight when it comes to proper pet care and obedience. We have taken several classes with her and couldn't be happier with what we see happening in our home as a result. We have learned so much from her in regards to mindful and lifelong puppy techniques. She truly is a dog professional!

Tonda is WONDERFUL! We boarded our four year old German Shepard Dog, Koda, for the first time while going on a weekend trip to Lake Tahoe. Tonda took the time to get to know him, ask us questions, and went the extra mile to help him and help us be better pawrents! We had access to the doggy cam and were able to check on Koda throughout our time away. We took a training class with Tonda which left us speechless regarding the knowledge and care she has for the dogs. Koda wanted to go back to the site with Tonda because he felt comfortable with her (speaks volume about a what a wonderful experience he had with her). Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better boarding and training experience. We are grateful for Tonda at Professional Dog Mom. THANK YOU!
