Lisa has gone above and beyond in support and with training a replacement service dog for our daughter. Now she helped us find our first pet. Her dog training knowledge combined with her human therapy skills make Lisa an invaluable resource for your service/therapy/pet dog needs.

Lisa and Luminary Service Dogs gave us such an incredible gift. When my 16-year-old son Cyrus broke his neck in a skiing accident, he was introduced to service dogs while in rehab for quadriplegia at Craig Hospital in Denver. He and a new friend, also recently injured from a head first dive, spoke together of how much they wanted to have dogs. The joy of a relationship with a dog was a simple dream for these recently injured teens, however, the wait to get a service dog is often 3 years after injury, after time on a wait list, and the fully trained dog is usually 30 months old when it arrives to be of service to wheelchair users. Cyrus wanted a dog sooner than that and he especially wanted to enjoy puppyhood. We found a breed that was well-suited for service, a Golden Retriever/Bernese Mountain Dog mix, and rolled the dice. Cyrus had a puppy, Chela, for his 17th birthday. Not long after, it became apparent that the stress of training the dog was creating additional anxiety for Cyrus. We were working hard, spending hours training, having her enrolled in classes and leaving her with an instructive puppy-day care when we travelled to the hospital for outpatient rehab. We were enjoying his new puppy, yet despite our best efforts realized that we needed more help. We were so lucky to find an opening with Lisa. After a few introductory meetings for her to assess our dog, she felt that Chela was capable of being trained. One December evening in Woodland Park, Chela obediently jumped in Lisa’s truck and was off. During the board-and-train we interacted every few weeks so that Lisa could clarify which tasks would best serve Cyrus. And then, after 6 months, Chela was returned to us. For our first outing we toured the mall together and Chela was spot-on with her position next to his chair as he rolled along. Chela waited alongside of Cyrus’ chair for a long lunch discussing the transition back home, comfortable and patient. Lisa passed Cyrus the leash and we were off into our life! Chela donned a service vest the next day and Cyrus rolled her into Craig Hospital, where she was flawless in her behavior in a dynamic hospital rehab setting, with wheelchairs and therapists working all around her. She has done well in all subsequent settings. Lisa has been an ongoing support in the weeks afterward to address any questions that have arisen. Chela has continued to prove herself more than capable of accompanying Cyrus through his life and will head with him next month to the University of Denver, where she will live with him in the freshman dorms. She is capable of performing tasks related to his needs, such as pushing buttons and retrieving dropped objects, as well as being totally comfortable in any public access situations, obediently remaining alongside of Cyrus or in whatever place he commands while he faces the complexities of spinal cord rehab, college, and late adolescence. Chela, being well trained, has found an even happier place within our family system. The reassurance of a well-trained dog has been a priceless gift for my son, whose life was devastated unexpectedly, and he is receiving more than we ever hoped by having a dog. He lost control over his body and power over so many aspects of life after his injury. To be in a position of being able to successfully direct an animal offers him the psychological strength to realize that, with support from people like Lisa, he can regain aspects of the power and control he needs to live a live worth living. Already, thanks to Luminary Service Dogs, he is actively realizing personal dreams for himself, such as his simple hope to have his own dog. I appreciate you taking the time to read our journey with training our dog. I highly recommend Luminary Service Dogs, which offers an effective, capable and well-developed approach. Thanks so much for everything Lisa!

Lisa is a one of a kind bright light in the not so easy to navigate dog training and service dog world. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lisa on several occasions and with 3 separate dogs. I’ve not met any dog professional as invested in doing what’s right and seeing her clients through to a place where they can confidently navigate their life and relationships With their dogs even if all the questions haven’t been answered yet and things are still a work in progress. She is endlessly motivated to work with you challenges big and small, addressing every and any concern, personal and financial. She’s been flexible and compassionate in helping us replace our previous service dog after she suddenly passed at just a year old, extending herself in ways we never could have imagined. I hope that everyone at some point has the opportunity to meet and work with someone that displays such exemplary levels of professionalism, empathy, integrity, and kindness such as Lisa does. It’s rare to come by such a complete and total pleasure of a person. Lisa will become a part of your family as will all her k9 characters 🙂

I am so relieved and Happy I found Lisa at My Life Unleashed . A friend of mine recommended Lisa as she had used her services a few years ago. I thought her dog were amazing, and I wanted Tucker to be just like that or at least a portion of that.
Lisa came into our home, spent a good amount of time asking what our "wish list" was, gave her assessment and then we started the work. The suggestions and the assignments were nothing short of amazing. Tucker responded immediately. He seemed to actually enjoy the learning, not only was he behaving well for Lisa, but for us as well! It became clear to us that we were the ones who needed to learn how to communicate with Tucker more clearly. It was us, the owners, who needed to be taught how to communicate properly with our dog.
Normally when people would visit, Tucker would be all up in their business, barking , jumping and going crazy, he just wouldn’t settle down for a while. A few hrs after Lisa left our home , we were able to get Tucker to respond to our instructions, and he waited to greet our friends with 2 little ones in a much more polite manner than before.

Thank you Lisa !

Lisa Lior Lima, owner of My Life Unleashed, is without a doubt, the best dog trainer that you can find. Lisa’s love for dogs is evident in her compassionate but direct approach in training. Murphy, our Golden Retriever, immediately bonded with Lisa and the chemistry between the two was incredible to watch. Murphy went through the AKC Good Citizen Class and because of Lisa’s training, his obedience and skill level far surpassed any training we could do on our own. Lisa has a way of communicating with dogs that does not intimidate them and they are eager to respond in a positive way. Lisa has now trained Murphy to be a service dog and the transformation in him is incredible. When out in public, we receive numerous compliments from people on how well-trained Murphy is in his service dog techniques. Thank you Lisa for guiding and creating a dog that has a passion for service work. Not only is Lisa great with dogs, she has a warm, friendly and fun personality and is flexible with training in her facility, out in a public area or in your home. Through Lisa’s training, you are able to have a more pleasant, fun and meaningful relationship with your dog. If you have a dog that needs training of any kind, I highly recommend Lisa with My Life Unleashed. She is the best!

Lisa employs a balanced training style, a perfect fit for Harbor, my Newfoundland/Komondor mix. Not reliably food motivated, Harbor loves to work and help however possible. As a hybrid livestock guardian and water rescue dog, Harbor thinks creatively for himself, solving problems as a partnership with people at best and as an independent if he believes necessary. To successfully acquire skills, Harbor needs both positive reinforcement and clear boundaries, both of which Lisa provides excellently, conveying confines without a heavy hand. She’s talented and intuitive with dogs, but also refined. Rather than leaning on raw talent and intuition, Lisa clearly works to educate herself continuously. With a broad foundation of experience, she practically hones her skills to teach and communicate with dogs and their people. Her imaginative and inventive approach to dog training pairs well with good listening, accurate observation and critical thinking skills, ensuring success for all parties involved.
Not only is Lisa excellent as a professional, she’s also just good people. She’s kind, embracing people and their dogs with warmth. She’s respectful and treats people with dignity, assuming competence. She attends to folks with both deference and clarity. Lisa is generous. Setting people and dogs up for success with everything in her power, she sent Harbor home with all the physical and informational resources he and I needed to succeed as a team, asking for nothing in return. Caring and driven, pleasant, personable, professional and a joy to work with, Lisa is worth her weight in gold.
