I attended a Decoy/Training Helper Workshop with my dog specifically to work with Derek, the owner of Crouse Canine, in DFW. Derek is clearly one of the best, if not THE best in the industry at what he does. He builds dogs, handlers, training helpers (decoys) and families. He is able to test dogs because he thoroughly understands how dogs are built, where there might be a need to correct existing issues created previously for a variety of reasons, and where additional training is needed at each step in the process. He’s a problem solver. His work ethic is impeccable and he’s one of the hardest working and most dedicated people I’ve met throughout my life. He gave it his all during every session with each dog and each helper. He doesn’t hold back. He understands the most detailed aspects of training, how to apply them, and how to communicate them in detail effectively and efficiently in a manner tailored to each person who is there and wants to learn. Derek is a wealth of information and his willingness to put it all on the table and share is a rarity not only in the industry, but also in life. It was a privilege to learn from him, and I am honored to have had him work my dog. I look forward to working with him again in the future any time the opportunity becomes available.

I attended a decoy/helper workshop on February 21-23 in Texas given by Derek Crouse of Crouse Canine. I came away with a whole lot more of information and experience than I expected. Derek not only spends time breaking down each segment of training in decoy, handler and bite work using the proper equipment but also is a great communicator. He has a unique style of teaching. He does not rush through but takes time so that everyone in attendance can learn. He has such a passion to teach what he knows not only about dogs but also about life. He is awesome in what he does and I would highly recommend him to anyone that wants to learn in any area about dogs from obedience, sport, personal protection, decoy or handler. You won’t be disappointed in training/learning from Derek Crouse.

Grouse Canine is amazing! Our family loves his in home training and group training. Derek makes sure he knows everything about your dog to specialize each session. Derek just makes you feel like apart of a family. My family loves that if you have a problem or issue we can call him or text at anytime and he will help guide you on what to do. I highly recommend anyone who needs dog training!

Me and my fiancé lost our shepherd in January and in March we started looking for a new puppy and we found one. We soon realized that he had some sort of aggression and reactive issues. I contacted a local trainer where we did two private sessions and then was told that my dog is ready for group class where my dog literally didn’t learn anything and was taught to just climb on stuff and have all these other dogs running around him.
so I found Crouse Canine and I contacted Derek and told him the issues that my dog is having and asked if he would be able to help. I’m very thankful that he does in-home dog training because I really think that’s what my dog needed at that point. Derek is very knowledgeable, understanding, and cares about your pets well-being. I like that he records every training session that you have and he sends it to you so that you can go back on it. He also has his whiteboard that he writes his notes on and things to work on which he also sends to you. My dog is very stubborn. And listens very well to his dad, but when it comes to me, he does not listen very well and Derek very soon realized that. so Derek suggested that I do most of the training and it has been paying off. My confidence with my dog was very low and I was afraid of my dog and Derek could tell and every training session he could tell that it was getting better and he would always point it out. We’ve been training with him for I think the past 10 months and my dog is a completely different dog so if you’re looking for a trainer, I highly recommend Crouse Canine.

Derek is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to understanding your dog’s behavior. We saw marked improvement in our dog’s behavior after working with him. The added convenience of the in home sessions made training a much more enjoyable experience.

About 8 months ago I saw a sign for Crouse Canine. So I called. I was soo excited when Derek called back and put me in his schedule. He took on me and my 10 month old doberman and what an improvement. My pup was a bull in a china shop.
Derek not only is training my dog but training me. He helped me find more patients and made it possible for me to enjoy my dog more.
Crouse Canine is so versatile. Derek can train your dog to be all that they can be.
I was so pleasantly surprised when this young guy came to my door. He was energetic, personable, and understanding.
What I find is that the lecture before hand gives you an idea what to expect for that session. Sessions are recorded and sent to you. Now you can go back and review anything you need too.
Derek is always available during day time hours. If you need help or have a question you can message him and yes he gets back to you in no time
Having said all this my experience with Derek has made a world difference. I thoroughly enjoy are sessions. We have fun, we laugh, and we get it done.
What I can tell you about Derek is, he is educated in his field. He is kind, empathetic, has boundless energy and above all he is soooooo passionate about what he does. He loves what his job. In this day and age that is soooo refreshing.
I look forward to each session and what we will do next. The fact that he comes to your house is a godsend. We also don't just work in the house we go in the back yard, the front yard, and field trips to stores. The exposure is so important.
As always thank you Crouse Canine and Derek for all you do.

We had a great experience with Derek helping us find new ways to train our Boxer, Gracie. I knew I needed to contact Derek when Gracie had a difficult time at the vet and any time she would meet new people on the leash. We still have some work to do but the tools and information he gave to us is definitely moving us in the right direction! We love the fact that he comes to our home and takes the time to train all of us!

Our very energetic Rizzo had a lot of bad habits. Why we waited until he was 6 to start training I don’t know. Train your puppies and any age dogs. You will never regret it! Rizzo loves our training time and really loves it when Derek comes. He loves the treats and will do anything for them.
Derek is great! He knows so much about dog behavior and how their brains work. We started with the very basics and have built upon all of it. With a few minutes a day practicing the new behavior/skill we see changes in Rizzo every week. We still have a ways to go but we are getting there. I love that Derek comes to our home and I love the videos we get from each week’s lesson. Highly recommend Derek and forever grateful for his knowledge and help in training Rizzo.
