I met Ted in Basalt to utilize the pickup service. The van he arrived in was stacked with wire cages randomly spaced on top of each other, with vomit and dog feces all over the inside of the truck.

I sent my 3-year-old lab for a one-week stay at the Cottonwood Ranch. I included his food and meds in a big plastic container with a note taped to the side with instructions to give my dog his supplements and medications.

When I picked up my dog after a week at the Cottonwood Ranch, I opened the container to learn that none of his prescription medications, supplements, oil, or probiotics had been administered. I couldn’t have made the instructions clearer taped to the outside of his food container.

My dog returned dirty and skinny, and his coat looked worse than I had ever seen.

Ted is a god-send! I was lucky to rescue a wonderful but un-trained and rambunctious 2-year-old chocolate lab (who I love to pieces.) My strong-willed rascal would pull on the leash, counter surf, chase coyotes, forget her name, etc. etc. etc. My neighbor, who had sent his pup to Ted 12 years earlier, gave me Ted's number. After spending about three weeks at Cottonwood Ranch, Iris (my scoundrel) was a changed pup! She now walks nicely with me on leash, comes when I call her, and actually waits politely for her food. (I kid you not.) Not only does Ted have wonderful and kind training techniques, he is an animal lover. And he is always available when I need his help. Whether for training advice or lab advice, Ted always saves the day. Finally, Ted and Vanessa are the only two people I would trust to look after my dogs (apart from my parents, of course.) Thanks Ted and Vanessa! You are amazing.

Ted is fantastic. The ranch is a beautiful place for dogs to play and go for walks, and Ted seems very attentive. We left our three big dogs for two weeks, and he was able to bring them back to Basalt at the end of their stay.

We've been taking our dogs to Cottonwood Ranch and Kennel for 15 years and highly recommend it. Ted is a world-class dog trainer and my dogs love going to "Dog Camp." As soon as we turn down the driveway, they get excited. Ted has been great when we had some "special needs" situations and always treats our dogs as if they're his own. I can't speak more highly of him and this organization. First-class!

Ted has now trained two dogs for me since 2006 and I cannot say enough about how well his methods work. My newest dog, Hendrix, a 2 year old purebred lab rescue came to me with almost no obedience, and as soon he was ready (needed shots and neutering) I reached out to Ted and made the trip to the ranch. Here we are a month later and Hendrix is becoming a superstar, the dog I knew he could be. He's still full of energy, but the training he (and I) received from Ted has Hendrix doing all the right things and he's a joy to be around!

As a first-time dog owner and the owner of a high-energy dog (an 11-month old Vizsla), I was looking for a board and train program that would both reassure my fears of parting from my pup for a whole month and also be an effective training program to help my dog learn his manners, leash skills, and off-leash recall. I found all of that with Ted and am SO pleased that we sent our Vizsla, Gable there for a month of training.

From the first moment we met Ted (over the phone as he answered our many questions) we knew he was a professional and most importantly, cares for every dog as if they were his own. Ted sent us pictures and kept us updated about Gable's progress over the month and thoroughly walked us through how to reinforce the training when we went to pick him up. Gable is now a much calmer, responsive dog who understands that his humans are his leaders thanks to what Ted instilled in him. We will be returning to Cottonwood for boarding and would highly recommend to those with new dogs or stubborn behaviors alike!
