I have a new dog. My new Potato is more confident, less leash-reactive, less resource-guarding, less anxious, and *loves* being walked by kids. This is a world that I wished for FOREVER but I couldn't figure out how to make happen on my own. Before Canine Comprehensive, I'd block off time in my work cal just to train Potato more with apps, virtual trainers, etc you name it. Then I met Tobey at Canine Comprehensive for an assessment, and the rest is history. Their service (board and train + dog walking) is incredible, absolutely worth the money.

If I could dream up the perfect dog walking service, Canine Comprehensive would still exceed my wildest dreams. Tobey and all of the walkers are nothing short of amazing. When we first hired them, our rescue dog Luna was so fearful and stressed out that she didn’t want even want to walk around the block with us most days. Tobey patiently and expertly eased Luna into walking with her pack of dogs and gave us some training sessions as well on how to walk her with more confidence. Luna completely transformed into a confident, happy dog who looks forward to her daily pack walks with smiles and tail wags. Elisabeth has been Luna’s main regular dog walker for years now and she is extremely reliable, caring, friendly, and communicative. We are sad to be moving out of the state and hope we can find someone even half as good as Elisabeth, Tobey & everyone at Canine Comprehensive. Did I mention that they send a daily doggie pic of the pack walks? We’re talking adorable pet photographer quality photos here with artful arranging and backgrounds —they made a gorgeous calendar from the photos! Canine Comprehensive is simply THE BEST.

We had an incredibly spirited German Shepherd who was highly anxious and showed fear rooted aggression against people and other dogs. Canine comprehensive worked miracles with our dog. Our dog now has 100% recall (including not chasing after deer), she is no longer reactive to other dogs or people. But most importantly her nervous system is no longer in constant crisis as she has learned to self soothe and be calm inside the house. We now can enjoy off leash walking in my small town and in the forest and have 100% confidence that we have our dog under full control. The quality of our life has greatly improved. We are no longer terrified of how my dog will behave. One of the best data points that speaks to the quality of Canine Comprehensive’s training was that when we got to our first session, after our dog left the 8-week board and train program, Xola was excited to see Toby and to be back! We would give the Canine Comprehensive a million stars if that was possible. We were completely at a loss when we adopted our pup who seemed fined when we he was still with his foster but immediately upon returning home showed signs of extreme fear, separation anxiety (from his brother), and dog reactivity.

That's when Tobey came in and changed out lives. It was a very slow process to gain our pup's trust and to go at his pace but has paid dividends!

He is now in three pack walks a week living his best life with his dog pals! Canine Comprehensive changed the way we thought about our pup, his needs, what we are able to give him, and how we can all live in calm harmony.

Working with Canine Comprehensive has been hugely valuable to the quality of life for us and our dog. Tobey and Kalif are incredible at what they do and are truly professionals. They’ve worked with our Samoyed who’s very challenging and helped us get her emotions under control, have a perfect heal for loose leash walking, and play better with other dogs despite some resource guarding issues. We’re now close to getting her recall and off leash skills into a great place.

They love the dogs they work with and know how to use various tools to reinforce good behaviors and extinguish bad ones. Despite how challenging and important she is to us, we always feel safe leaving our dog with them. Our family is so thankful for the Canine Comprehensive team. Our dog Ace (pit/cattle dog mix) is a handful and really keeps us on our toes. We adopted him as a small puppy and we knew straightway that we needded the best trainers in town.

Our core training team at Canine Comprehensive has been the dynamic-duo team of Tobey and Kalif. Both are like patient therapists for the humans and the dogs! Tobey's deep understanding of dog behavior is incredible and they've guided us on the three year journey with our little pup. That said, the romance between Kalif and Ace is something to see. Ace is so excited to see Kalif for training and walks, but understands Kalif means business and it is time to work. Kalif is an excellent and patient trainer that understands the greatness (and challenges) of complicated breeds.

We honestly couldn't have handled our dog's high drive, intelligence, and stubborn pushy behavior without the collaboration and hard work of the Canine Comprehensive.

I cannot thank Tobey and Kalif's team enough for how they've helped me and my pup, Luna. Luna is my first dog, a COVID puppy and a rescue off the street, so she never got the proper socialization and training that I wish she would've when she was young. For the past few years, Luna has been terrified of busy streets and loud trucks - making it SO hard to go on walks to the point where I'd have to drive her somewhere to go potty. She wasn't getting the exercise she needed, she was anxious and scared to go outside and I was feeling so discouraged as a dog mom.

I found Canine Comprehensive online, read the tons of fantastic reviews and finally reached out - and others aren't lying when they say they don't know why they waited so long. Luna did the 6 week Board & Train program and has come home a new dog. We just walked around Downtown Oakland together and I could literally cry with how happy I am. She's so much more confident and her world can be so much bigger now!

5 stars, try a million stars... Tobey and their team are truly the best. We've been a client of Canine Comprehensive for about 3 years, coming to Tobey after my 1 1/2 year old rescued English Bulldog had been kicked out of a pack walk group and then day care for poor social skills, lack of impusle control, and her general bully behavior.
We're realistic in knowing that Poppy will always be stubborn, headstrong, and pushy, that's just who she is. However, after 3 years of working with Tobey, including private training, pack walks, and a total of 7 weeks of board and train, I can confidently say that Poppy and I both have the skills to help manage Poppy to have the best life she possibly can, including safely being around other dogs AND cats, being more social, and having more freedom. Poppy is living proof, you CAN train your Bulldog!
I can't recommend Tobey and Canine Comprehensive enough. Their knowledge, care, and passion for dog training can't be beat. They are a great teacher and trusted advisor. We are so grateful to have found Tobey and Canine Comprehensive, they've made our lives infinitely better!
