I highly recommend Josh and the team at Ancestral Companions. My dog Juno is a rescue and had a lot of anxiety when first seeing and meeting other dogs. After getting through the Intro course, Juno is doing so much better. It was great to have the structure and attention of working with Josh every week in our individual meetings, combined with the group trainings to help with socialization. Juno is much better at regulating his behaviors and focusing on me, and so is better socialized around other dogs. I highly recommend Ancestral Companions!

I would reccomend Ancestral Companions to anyone thinking about getting their dog into training. Even if your dog already has their basics down, there is still always so much more to learn & improve on that you don’t realize until you go through the training.

Words cannot describe our gratitude for Ancestral Companions Dog Training services. We enrolled our dogs Malo and Frida into a 10-week course with the help of Josh. For context, Malo, our American Bully, was a reactive dog and could not see other dogs. Firda, our Dalmatian was very anxious and oftentimes did not want to participate. With the support of Josh, our dogs transformed into two independent and confident dogs that love being around each other. Josh gave us hope when we felt like there was none we will be forever grateful for him.

I didn’t know what to expect when enrolling my cane corso for basic training. During one of the first visits Josh said most of the training is for the handler not the dog and I found that to be very true early on. If someone told me 2 months ago my dog could do a 50 ft recall I would have thought they were crazy! Today she did it with no problem. Now I sound like the crazy one telling everyone to enroll their dogs for training. Josh has been the absolute best at working around my schedule and including my kids in the trainings. He gave me the tools to trust my dog that I didn’t know I was missing. My dog, Queen, and I have a completely different bond now that I could have never imagined and could have never gotten on my own.

My partner and I originally contacted Juan at a point of frustration. Our dog, Ash (cattle dog mix), was a reactive dog to humans and other dogs, regardless of distance. We were tired to worrying about encountering another people or dog on a walk and fearing for others safety.
We completed the assessment and did the 8 week basic obedience course. We put in the time and implemented what our amazing trainer, Josh, said into practice. By the time we finished the 8th week, Ash was a completely different dog. We loved the progress we made that we continued with the intermediate course and continued to go to the events. Every single week, Ash improved and started to grow in confidence around humans and other dogs. He still has his moments but they are far less frequent and we know ways to help Ash with breaking his behavioral issues.
With the help of Juan, Josh, and the ancestral community, Ash can calmly walk by other dogs and be pet by strangers, things I thought were not possible 4 months ago. This completely changed our life and gave us a whole new level of understanding our dog and dog behavior in general.

Juan, along with his teacher dog Moksha, are the best dog trainers! The local area is fortunate to have dog training at this top level. Juan is exceptionally knowledgeable and intuitive about dogs. When he initially met my dogs and evaluated them, I was surprised at the depth of information and advice he gave me about them. Turns out he was right about everything.

I've been working with Juan and his team for six+ months, and I'm very happy with the results. Juan has unique training methods and uses positive reinforcement to help socialize your dog properly while also teaching them basic commands and more. Juan creates scenarios and hosts canine social events where your dog can learn how to interact properly with other dogs and people in public as well as at home. He checks in with you and gives you customized tips according to what he observes with your dog. He is also continually posting training videos and tips to reinforce what he teaches in his classes. I feel like he has trained me as much as he's trained my dogs!

Not only has he helped me train my dogs, but he's also been the catalyst to help me better understand my dogs. My dogs and I have bonded even more because of Juan's training.

In addition, Juan is a genuinely good, trustworthy person with an enthusiasm for the work he does. It's enjoyable to be around him, and he makes training fun and interesting. I highly recommend Juan for any of the dog services he offers. You won't be disappointed with Ancestral Companions.

Our dog was initially very wild. We adopted her and were told that she was a street dog. At shelter, we were given two sets of antidepressants for her. She would bite and chew on everything and didn't obey at all. However, with the help of the Ancestral Companions team, she became very well behaved and happy. The trainers are well informed on every dog's needs and the best training plan for them, and adjust the program as needed. Even after the first training session (which is free), we understood our dog better and got some tips how to react to her behavior. After every session she was more and more friendly. After just a month of training with them, our dog's behavior had significant improvements. She has completed the basic course, and now she is on intermediate level (learning to walk without the leash). We are getting compliments on the streets how well behaved the dog is. It is only 3 months that she is with us. She does not need medication. She is a happy, lively, friendly dog. Another one advantage of this program are dogs events on weekends, they are free, and dogs get a chance to socialize and improve their behavior with the other dofs. We 100% recommend them to anyone looking to properly train their dog.
