After my father passed away, I required immediate assistance to house two German Wirehair pointers until burial arrangements and estate complications could be finalized. Due to the close proximity of my fathers residence, I gave the dogs to my sister with direction to take them to Hallcrest Kennel. She did, however the weather was 93 degrees and the dogs were kept in weed infested dog runs with corrugated metal sheeting as the only shade. While water was given, it too was scalding and matched the 90 something degree outside temp.
I returned a day later, took the dogs home with me where they remain today. Please check the conditions of the kennels . Leave enough time to reconsider if you find conditions are unsatisfactory. I have enclosed pictures of the dogs panting in the heat upon my visit to rescue.

I feel 1 star is generous. It was winter. In the garage, collapsible dog crates were stacked in several rows, 2-3 high (depending on size of crate) with nothing between them (not carpet or cardboard, nothing). We insisted our German Shepherd and Mini-Australian Shepherd be stacked together for comfort - we'd taken their beds and some toys never imaging the horrible conditions. The noise was deafening. We were new to the area, had a family emergency near a holiday and knew of 0 other options. It's a cash only business. It felt like a Homeward Bound 2 scene. We were thankful our dogs survived. We use rover.com now.

Handled our dogs while we went to the great wolf lodge for family fun. 2 dogs 80 and 90 lbs. Rate was good, they don't take cards so remember that. We didn't know until pickup and she had no problem letting us run to an ATM to grab cash. I support cash payments and would do the same if I ran a small business. Will use them again

We dropped the dog off the Saturday before Christmas and they were very nice and receptive, the kennel has individual dog runs that are gated and separated. I am not sure if when the dogs are outside if they are allowed to run around into other dog runs or if they are closed while occupied. They do offer to feed the dogs while they stay there however, I'm not sure what the food is. I was surprised to see this place was behind the owners house in their backyard. If the weather is not nice, they bring the dogs in. When they do I noticed there is not a lot of room for them to run around, or if they are kenneled. A pet peeve with this place is the owners DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS. We were not made aware of this at any point before or during his stay there. It was not until my wife showed up to pick him that they told her this. This is a frustrating and confusing business practice that makes me very uncomfortable.

We decided last minute to travel during this time of year, so I called around to many different traditional daycare's and could not get him in. HallCrest was a last minute place that served our needs. They seem very nice and I was sure the dog would be fine when he got home.

However, if you can take your dog to a traditional daycare with an indoor and outdoor space to let them run around and interact with the other dogs I feel like that is a better option.

UPDATE: Ryder came home today in desperate need of a bath. This we understood would be a necessary need and one that probably would have occurred regardless of where he stayed over the time we were gone. When my wife got him home today, she had discovered dirt was caked all over his paws. It was caked on the inside of his paws which I am sure was very irritating for our 8 month pup. He had some pink irritation around his mouth when he got home that was not there when we dropped him off.

To put it lightly Ryder couldn't wait to leave Hallcrest, a mix I am sure of excitement to get home partly but he was showing signs of not wanting to spend any more time in this setting. I found this kennel to be on the dirty side with dogs lying in a dog run sectioned off in dirt, no grass no artificial turf or any cover whatsoever.

`I called on Thursday morning and the got my dogs in later that morning! Answered all of my questions and let me call and see how they were doing (My first time boarding them so I was a little spooked). Dogs were happy and healthy when I picked them up and Marilyn (I think that was here name) was very sweet and polite. If I ever have to kennel again, I won't go anywhere else. Thank you very much!

You know, you want to give a local business a chance since there are countless corporate options in area, but you’d like to have your money flow to a small business owner instead. We have a few dogs, we bring them here for grooming, that is until she almost chopped off my dogs eat. We chalked it up as an accident (mind you we weren’t offered a discount or anything, just sorries). Then we decide to use her boarding service for a weekend. We’re going to be back on Sunday, but she’s closed. So we pay for an additional day we don’t need, but fine. I call first thing Monday morning to see about picking up my dog. Now they open at 8am, but it’s out of her house. She answers and when I asked if I can come early to pick up our dog since I have to clock in for work the same hours she is open, “well no, no you can’t because we have chores in the morning.”

Really?! You have to pick up dog poop and that’s going to stop you from servicing one of your customers for 5 minutes while I pay you as well as grab my dog? Well, I’m done. These are the little things people like about working with a small business. Some flexibility. Some personal touch. Hell I pay more and get less. The corporate place is 24/7. I would have paid a day less and been able to get my dog anytime. Petsmart is cheaper for grooming and I would have gotten a lot more than a sorry for almost chopping my dogs ear off.

This was the first time I had taken my dogs there. Staff was very friendly and the dogs were in great shape when we picked them up. Very clean facility as well. Great job all around! I will recommend Hallcrest Kennels when I am asked next time.

I've taken my Dobie to Hallcrest several times now when we go out of town. He is always well taken care of, and Marilyn is super accommodating and wonderful. I love the country setting as well 🙂
